I'm Katie

25+ years of experience. A lifetime of learning about movement.

I've been involved in strength training and sports since I was 15, and I've spent more than 25 years working with people to help them understand their bodies, build strength and feel more confident in what they can do.

My background includes Kinesiology from McMaster University, cardiac rehabilitation, strength training, Pilates, yoga, restorative movement and holistic nutrition.

I've also experienced injuries in my own movement journey, which taught me a great deal about healing, core strength, adapting training and listening to the body.

But the qualifications aren't really the point.

People don't stay with a trainer for 15 years because of a certificate on the wall. They stay because they feel understood, supported and challenged in the right ways.

That's the kind of relationship I want to build with you.

Training that understands your body

Why work with someone who specializes in 50+?

Your body isn't the same at 50 as it was at 30 — and your trainer shouldn't treat it that way.

I've spent 25+ years coaching people through movement and strength, with an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology from McMaster University and experience working in cardiac rehabilitation. I've worked with adults across different decades of life and understand that your training needs change as your body changes.

I know what it takes to challenge a 50+, 60+ or 70+ body without treating it like a younger body — or an older one that needs to be handled with kid gloves.

Experience that matters

I understand how to train an aging body.

My approach evolves with you — taking into account changes in muscle, bone, joints, mobility, balance, recovery and overall capacity across different decades.

I know how to work around injuries.

An injury doesn't automatically mean you have to stop training. I know how to modify exercises, find what your body can do and keep you strong and fit while you recover.

I understand the bigger picture of wellness.

My work extends beyond exercise. I'm continually studying nutrition and the everyday wellness habits that support strength, energy, recovery and healthy aging.

I know how to make strength training work for real life.

The goal isn't simply to lift heavier weights. It's to build the strength, mobility, stability and confidence that allow you to keep doing the things you love.

You don't need to train like you're 30

You need a coach who understands how to help you thrive in the body you have now — and build the body you want for the decades ahead.

Training that meets you where you're at

The quality of coaching doesn't get lost online

One of the things my clients are often surprised by is how much I can see and correct through a screen.

With 25 years of studying the human body, I can notice subtle changes in how you're moving and give you very specific cues — adjust your pelvis, change your alignment, shift your weight, move this way instead of that way.

I can see what your body is doing and coach you through the adjustment in real time.

Many clients initially worry that online training will mean less personal attention. They quickly discover the opposite.

You get the same highly personalized coaching and attention — just from the comfort of your own home.

"I honestly didn't think you'd be able to see and correct the little things through a screen. But you do! You're constantly noticing things I would never notice myself and giving me such specific adjustments. It feels just as personal as training together in person."

The questions I get asked most

Does online personal training really work, or is it a compromise?

You may be surprised by how much I can see and coach through a screen. I’ve had many clients tell me they were pleasantly surprised by how effective online coaching is—and how closely I’m able to observe their movement and fine-tune their form. With the right camera setup, I can watch how you move, give you real-time feedback, make adjustments, and progress your training just as I would with you in person.

The screen doesn’t get in the way of great coaching—it simply gives us more flexibility for where you train.

I’ve never worked with a personal trainer before. Am I too unfit to start?

Absolutely not. In fact, helping people build strength from the ground up is one of my strengths as a coach. I’ve worked with clients who came to me with very little strength, fitness, or understanding of how to exercise safely—including through my background in cardiac rehabilitation.

I know how to start with the foundations, build core strength and stability, and progressively introduce more challenging movements without pushing you beyond what your body is ready for. You won’t be intimidated, thrown into workouts that are too hard, or expected to “keep up.” I’ll meet you where you are, teach you how to move well, and build your strength and confidence one step at a time.

How is online personal training different from following a workout program on my own?

You don’t have to think about what to do—you just have to show up. My Kinesiology degree and 25 years of studying movement, training, and different exercise modalities have taught me how to assess what your body needs and design a strength-training program specifically for you. Unlike a generic online program, your training evolves as you get stronger, so you’re always doing what is appropriate for your body and your goals.

And perhaps most importantly, you have an appointment to show up for. Many of my clients tell me they struggle to stay motivated and consistent when following a program on their own. Knowing that I’ll be there keeps them accountable—and that consistency is what allows them to make progress and maintain their results over the years.

You don’t need more willpower. You need the right plan, the right coach, and someone expecting you to show up.

Can I still build muscle and get significantly stronger after 50?

Absolutely. I believe you can get stronger at any age—you just need to understand what your body needs at that stage of life. With the right strength-training strategy, you can build muscle, increase your strength, improve your stability, and continue making meaningful progress well beyond 50.

What changes with age is not whether you can get stronger, but how you need to train and recover to get the best results. That’s why I combine personalized strength training with nutrition and wellness strategies that support muscle growth, recovery, energy, and overall health.

Your age isn’t a reason to stop getting stronger. It’s a reason to train smarter.

What if I’m not naturally athletic or I’ve never been good at exercise?

You don’t have to be athletic, coordinated, or naturally “good at exercise” to get stronger. Strength is a skill that can be learned, and my job is to teach you how to move well and build your abilities progressively.

I’ll start with where you are—not where you think you should be—and build from the foundations up. As your strength, coordination, mobility, and confidence improve, exercises that once felt difficult become easier.

You don’t need to be good at exercise to start. You just need to start—and I’ll take care of the rest.

What equipment do I need for online personal training?

You don’t need a home gym or a room full of expensive equipment to get strong. We can start with what you have and build from there. Depending on your goals and current fitness level, I may recommend a few simple pieces of equipment, such as dumbbells, resistance bands, and a yoga mat.

One of the things my clients love most about online training is how flexible it is. When they travel, they can meet me from their hotel room using nothing more than their cell phone—no equipment required. And they still report having a great, effective workout.

They love knowing they can stay consistent with their training even when they’re away from home, rather than having to put their fitness on hold every time they travel.

I’ll help you determine what will actually benefit your training, so you’re not buying equipment you don’t need. The focus is on getting you stronger—not collecting fitness equipment.

Can strength training help me lose weight after 50?

Yes. Strength training is one of the most important forms of exercise for healthy, sustainable weight loss as you age. Rather than simply focusing on burning calories, we work on building and maintaining lean muscle, which helps you become stronger, more capable, and more metabolically resilient.

My approach to weight loss isn’t about eating as little as possible or spending hours doing cardio. We combine personalized strength training with practical nutrition strategies that support fat loss while helping you maintain and build muscle.

The goal isn’t simply to see a lower number on the scale. It’s to change your body composition, feel stronger and more confident in your body, and develop habits you can actually maintain for years—not just for the next six weeks.

What if I have an old injury, bad knees, or back pain?

You don’t have to be completely pain-free or injury-free to start strength training. In fact, learning how to strengthen your body appropriately can be an important part of staying active as you age.

I’ll work with your current abilities and limitations, adapting your training around your injury, pain, or mobility restrictions. My goal is never to push you through pain or prove how hard you can work. It’s to help you build strength safely and progressively while respecting what your body is telling you.

If you’re working with your physiotherapist, doctor, or another healthcare professional, I’ll also take their recommendations into account when designing your training.

You don’t need to wait until your body feels perfect to get stronger. We can work with where you are and build from there.

What does the nutrition coaching involve, and does it cost extra?

Nutrition is part of my coaching because getting stronger, building muscle, recovering well, and changing your body requires more than exercise alone.

I’ll help you understand how to fuel your body for your goals, with practical strategies around protein, meals, hydration, recovery, and sustainable eating habits. This isn’t about restrictive diets, counting every calorie, or giving you a rigid meal plan you’ll abandon a few weeks later. It’s about learning what your body needs and creating habits you can actually live with.

Nutrition guidance is included as part of your personal training—not an expensive add-on. We look at the whole picture so your training, nutrition, recovery, and lifestyle are working together to help you feel stronger, healthier, and more energized.

What makes your approach different from other online personal trainers?

I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to fitness. Your body, your history, your goals, and what you need to feel your best are unique to you—and your training should be too.

With a degree in Kinesiology and 25 years of experience studying movement, training, and different exercise modalities, I understand how to look at the whole person and build your strength from the ground up. We don’t just work out—we develop the strength, mobility, stability, nutrition habits, and recovery strategies that support your body for the long term.

I also care deeply about making fitness something you can actually sustain. You won’t be pushed through workouts that leave you feeling exhausted, intimidated, or discouraged. I’ll meet you where you are, challenge you appropriately, and progressively help you become stronger and more capable.

My goal is not to get you into shape for a few months. It’s to help you build a body and lifestyle you can feel good living in for years to come.

I believe your body is one of your greatest resources for living a rich and meaningful life.
